The Manga Bible
By Siku, illus. / Doubleday
Acclaimed British artist Siku turns his pen towards the Bible, taking up the task of a full presentation of the story of the Bible. Using the modern British style of art that is very reminiscent to manga, Siku covers many high points - and low points - of the Old Testament in narrative form while letting a few shorter parts (Ruth, Jonah, and Psalm 18) punctuate the general flow. The New Testament focuses heavily on the Gospels (with 4 one-page parables) before a giving a treatment of the Acts of the Apostles, with some accompanying text from the epistles. A brief version of Revelation concludes the book.
The stated intention of The Manga Bible is to inspire the reader to study the actual Bible texts, and to help in this mission non-invasive boxes on many pages point the reader to Bible verses where the full story can be found. Many modern elements are used, such as slang, stylized visuals and humor, to shift emphasis off of the non-nuanced scriptural dialogue. This version of The Manga Bible also contains commentary on key scenes, a sketch gallery and an article on the importance of scripture.

Manga Messiah (Manga Book #1-The Gospels)
By Tyndale House
Read the life of Jesus, taken from all four Gospels, in the most popular 'graphic novel' format on the planet. Accurate to the scriptural account, and professionally illustrated by Japanese artists, this book is a great way to spread the word of God to those who have never heard the Good News. Geared toward manga fans who are not Christians, the story is the familiar life of Christ but presented in a way that brings the reader through the whole story to the realization of Christ as Lord and Savior, as well as presenting the Gospel. Designed mainly for evangelistic outreach, this book is also for those who enjoy Bible stories in comic book or graphic novel form.
In plain English and dynamic visuals, the story of Jesus plays out vividly from the angelic appearances His parents received, through His ministry and crucifixion, and finally to His ascension. Each friend, foe or disciple is given a unique look, putting a face to their words and deeds as recorded in the Bible. This full color volume is perfect for gaining a deeper understanding of the Gospels or for giving to friends who enjoy manga but don't know what the life of Christ was all about. Recommended for ages 9 and up.

#1: Names, Games, and the Long Road Trip, Manga Bible, Volume 1
By Young Shin Lee / Zonderkidz
The Bible and comedy - usually these two either are kept at arms length from each other or are part of an attack on the Scriptures. But now, with the Manga Bible, both come together in a fun, entertaining and respectful (although comical) way. Covering major events in the first two books of the Bible, learn and laugh your way through the familiar stories of the creation, Noah's ark, Abraham, Joseph and Moses, among others. The story and art are by professional Korean veterans of manga (or, more appropriately, manwha, which is manga produced in Korea), with English translations throughout to recapture the humor as originally intended. Recommended for ages 9 to 11.
